DEATH OF JOHN DOYLE

One of Miramichi's Oldest
and most respected citizens
passes away

Upper Nelson has lost one of its oldest and most highly respected citizens in the death of John Doyle which occured at his home on Wednesday June 29.

Deceased was in his usual good health up to a short time ago when he began to lose his former strength and relinquish all hopes for recovery. Death came quite peacefully with the beautiful calm of a Christian soul

Mr Doyle was a man of noble and generous qualities always ready to lend the helping hand; a good neighbor and a staunch friend to all those who were fortunate enough to meet him. He was ever a faithful member in performing his Christian duties and a devoted member of the Catholic Church

He was a life long resident of Upper Nelson always lived on the old Homestead. His parents came here from Ireland when the land was then in a state of wilderness, and settled in the Miramichi

Deceased was the last surviving member of the old family. He was married to Ellen Donovan of Renous River who predeceased him some twenty years ago. In his early years he was engaged in the lumbering industry and also farming; for many years he was engaged in lumbering for the late J. O'Brien and Burchill and was always an honest and upright man in all his business dealings In politics he was always a Liberal

The funeral cartege, which was very large, was held from his late residence to St Edwards Church Chelmsford where burial took place on Friday at 9 a.m. with Requiem High Mass by Rev. Father Burns. The pallbearers were near neighbors fo the deceased

Much sympathy is held for the bereaved family especially for his daughter Helen, who remained with him with such utering devotion upon the event of her mother's death

The family surviving consists of four sons and two daughters, Joseph and Thomas at home, Patrick and Mrs M. Hackett of Doyles' Brook, Morris (Maurice) of Campbellton, Helen and James of Maine U.S.A. One nephew William T. Doyle resided quite near and another nephew Henry P. Doyle of Campbellton
